Pedestal Tables

I found these beautiful egg stands on Amazon - about US$8 for two - and thought they would make really ornate pedestal tables for Myrtlewood's ballroom.

These are made of some sort of metal and a very nice weight; I guess they have to be heavy enough to hold the marble or stone eggs they are sometimes used to display. They were a little too shiny right out of the box, so I used some burnt umber paint to tone them down and age them a bit.

I made the "marble" tops from polymer clay.

I made two of these for the ballroom. I also bought a few ostrich egg holders; they're shorter but wider around. I haven't decided exactly what to do with them yet - maybe an entrance table or a chess/game table? Let me know if you have any ideas.

Beautiful find, what a great way to repurpose a item for minis. I saw recently similar egg stands on Amazon but they didn't have the marble plate on top--was that added by you?

Fantastic job of creating the marble from Fimo. Please seriously consider giving us some tips on that technique.

This is another great idea and these are some of the most ornate egg cups I have ever seen ! What kind of family use them for eggs? They should only be for mini side tables :). You have truly mastered the marble technique and the edging really adds a realistic touch.

I see Mary has missed the "hide" button in your post and did not read the rest of the post. How do you do that? I must go find out.

Thanks everyone for your comments! This was one of the easiest minis I've made, actually -you've gotta love those projects you can finish quickly and still feel like you've really accomplished something!

Karin, the "marble" is really easy, and I'm not altogether sure I have a "technique," but I'll try to take some pictures next time I make some so I can show how I'm doing it.

Sans, there are a number of different ways to expand/hide your posts. Search for "expandable post summaries" in blogger help and you'll find several different links. Here's the one I used:

Wow! Belle, you've outdone yourself on these! They're fabulous!

We were in the Houston area . . . The Woodlands is where my sister lives, near Spring, TX. Man! That 100 degree whether is too much for me! Thank goodness they just had a pool installed and so were were able to keep ourselves cool while enjoying the outdoors!

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your kind comments! Myrtlewood is really coming along . . . I can't wait to attend a 'ball'! LOL!!

Take care,
Teresa the MiniMadwoman

Susan, thank you for pointing out that button--how nifty, Belle. I've always thought it took the reader to older posts! Don't know how much of folks' blog entries I've been missing all this time...

wow - i can't believe you made those table tops from clay! I was reading the post thinking how clever you were to use egg holders for tables but HOW IN THE WORLD could she cut marble into such tiny circles!?! But its clay and it looks so real!! Wonderful job :)
